Analysis

What's actually in it.

Natural mineral water has a legal meaning, and its own Indian Standard — IS 13428, separate from the IS 14543 that covers packaged drinking water. It comes from a protected underground source and it keeps the minerals it picked up on the way. It isn't stripped down to nothing and re-dosed with salts afterwards.

That distinction is the whole product. It's also why we publish the numbers instead of writing "enriched with essential minerals" and hoping nobody asks. The figures below come from a batch analysis — ask us and we'll send the current certificate.

The practical upshot is taste. At pH 7.4, with total dissolved solids around 210 mg per litre, it reads clean and slightly sweet rather than flat or metallic. That is a moderate mineral load — enough to taste of something, not enough to taste of salt.

The shaded band is the 6.5–8.5 range BIS specifies for packaged drinking water. Ours sits just above neutral, which is where water stops tasting flat and starts tasting of something.

Values vary slightly batch to batch, which is normal for water from a natural source. FSSAI licence number and the current test report are printed on every carton.

How it's made

Protected source: Drawn from a protected catchment in the Shivalik foothills, away from farmland, drains and traffic.
Sand and carbon: Multi-grade sand beds and activated carbon take out sediment, colour and odour.
Micron filtration: Stepped 5 µm, 1 µm and 0.2 µm cartridges catch whatever the earlier stages left.
Mineral check: The natural mineral ratio is measured and held inside a set band, batch after batch.
UV and ozone: Two independent disinfection stages. No chlorine, so no aftertaste.
Automated filling: Bottles are blown, rinsed, filled and capped inside the machine. Nobody handles them.
Batch release: Lab-cleared and date-coded before it's allowed onto a truck. Any bottle traces back to the hour it was filled.

Story

It starts long before the plant.

Protected natural mineral water spring in the Shivalik foothills

Good bottled water is decided at the catchment, not on the production line.

Ours sits inside a monitored catchment with no farmland above it and no industry upstream — which is the unglamorous reason the numbers on the analysis table stay steady from one batch to the next.

First Thirst started in Okhla with one plant, a handful of routes and a fairly narrow idea: sell water you'd be happy to give your own family, and be able to answer any question a customer asks about it.

That's still the whole business. We're small enough that if something's wrong with a bottle, the person who picks up the phone can go and check the batch.

Why minerals matter

Calcium, magnesium and potassium are what separate mineral water from purified water. They're also what makes it taste of something. We don't remove them and add them back.

Food-grade, BPA-free PET and recyclable cartons. We take back 5 litre packs on the next delivery, and unopened event stock comes back at no charge.

How do I place an order?

Use the form above or tap any WhatsApp button on this page. It opens a chat with your details already written out. We reply with the rate and a delivery slot, usually within a few minutes between 8 AM and 9 PM.

Do you deliver 20 litre water cans?

Yes. The 20 litre can is quoted per unit rather than by the carton, so choose "20 Litre jar (bulk)" in the form above and we'll send the rate. Everything from 330 ml to 5 litre goes by the carton.

How much does it cost?

There's no fixed price list on the site, because the rate depends on the pack size, how much you're taking and whether you're inside the free-delivery zone. Send the size and quantity on WhatsApp and you'll have a number back in minutes, before you commit to anything.

Can I pay online?

Not on the site — it's cash or UPI on delivery. Online payment is planned for a later version. For now every order is confirmed on WhatsApp first, so you're never paying for something that turns out to be out of stock.

Is there a minimum order?

One carton inside the free-delivery zone. Outside it, five cartons or one pallet. Offices and events are quoted separately.

What's the difference between natural mineral water and packaged drinking water?

Packaged drinking water can be any treated water, including municipal supply that's been purified — that grade is covered by IS 14543. Natural mineral water is the separate standard, IS 13428: it has to come from a protected underground source and keep its natural mineral content, rather than being stripped down and re-dosed with salts. That's the difference, and it's why the composition table above has real numbers on it.

How long does it keep?

Best within six months of the packing date on the bottle. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from strong-smelling cleaning products — PET breathes slightly, and water picks up odours.
